<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Exodus 3;13-15<div><br></div><div><b>13. &nbsp;Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel, and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ “What shall I say to them?”</b><br><b>14. &nbsp;God said to Moses,&nbsp;&nbsp;“I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”</b></div><div><b>15. &nbsp;God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: this is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.</b></div><div><br></div><div>God is not trying to be difficult or elusive when He identifies Himself not with a name, but with a state of being verb! &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In essence, God is teaching us that He is the great eternal&nbsp;transcendent Reality.<i></i></div><div><br></div><div>Nothing in this creation can ever identify ‘Him’&nbsp;who&nbsp;by His Word&nbsp;created Creation,&nbsp;who&nbsp;exists both outside Creation,&nbsp;fills Creation, and can/will take on human flesh and enter His<span>&nbsp;Creation! &nbsp;Our limited brains cannot comprehend the full&nbsp;identity of God. &nbsp;Yet, God promises us:&nbsp;<i>“They <u>shall</u>&nbsp;all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and will remember their sin no more.” &nbsp;</i>(Jeremiah 31;34) &nbsp;Even unbelievers will on Judgement Day know Him, and confess with their own tongues and blended knees, (along with the whole Church),&nbsp;<i>“at the name of&nbsp;Jesus, every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,&nbsp;and every tongue confess that&nbsp;Jesus&nbsp;Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”</i>&nbsp; (Philippians 2;10&amp;11)<i></i></span></div><div><br></div><div>No earthly&nbsp;name is great enough to identify God. &nbsp;Yet, <i>“in him </i>(the&nbsp;Christ) <i>the whole&nbsp;fullness of deity dwells bodily”&nbsp;</i>! &nbsp; This truth, exceeds human comprehension.</div><div><br></div><div>Therefore, God desires that we know Him by what He has done, is doing, and will do. &nbsp;God must&nbsp;describe&nbsp;Himself as a ‘state of being verb’!</div><div><br></div><div>God is the great eternal Reality, He and His living Word will never pass away, He is eternal. &nbsp;</div><div>Into us&nbsp;created beings, God has given an eternal soul, a part of Himself. &nbsp;These souls of ours will also never pass away. &nbsp;They will endure forever, either with God in His Light and Life, or apart from Him in darkness and the second death.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>When in verse 15, God further identifies Himself as, <i>“The LORD, The God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,”&nbsp;</i>He is identifying Himself as the Almighty One who promised descendants, land, and ‘the&nbsp;Blessing’ (Jesus) to the forefathers of the Israelites.</div><div><br></div><div>Again, He identifies Himself with His own action verbs, by what He has done. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In essence, God is now telling the Israelites through Moses that He is now&nbsp;about to act once more, and fulfill the Promise He made earlier. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>In order for the Israelites to receive the land promised their forefathers, they must leave (be delivered) out of Egypt and slavery. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Theologically we use the name ‘LORD’ to better identify that which cannot be contained or described in any name. &nbsp;In Hebrew the Jews have used the letters ‘YHWH’ in the scriptures to reverently represent the name ‘Yahweh.’ &nbsp;This Hebrew word essentially means ‘Being.’ &nbsp;(Another verb!)</div><div><br></div><div>Some teach that this word/Name is based upon the sounds we make when we inhale and exhale our breath.</div><div><br></div><div>This&nbsp;is not a name, but the&nbsp;action of God who gives Life. &nbsp;Behind all the actions of God His true nature is revealed. We know Him by what He does.</div><div><br></div><div>In the end, the Israelite slaves in Egypt received hope for themselves from this ‘name.’ &nbsp;A hope which gave them courage to set forth not knowing how they would survive. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>It is God, our divine eternal&nbsp;Reality, who has taken on human flesh to deliver us from our own slavery to sin and death.
